What is Cosmetology?
Cosmetology is the study and application of beauty treatment. Branches of specialty includes: hair styling, skin care, cosmetics, manicures/pedicures, and electrology.
What is a Cosmetologist?
A cosmetologist is someone who cuts and styles hair. He or she can also offer other services such as coloring, extensions, and straightening. Cosmetologist’s help their clients improve on or acquire a certain look with the right hairstyle. Hair stylists often style hair for weddings, proms, and other special events in addition to routine hairstyling.
What is a Nail Tech?
A nail technician specializes in the art form and care of nails, which includes manicures, pedicures, acrylic nails, gel nails, nail wraps, artificial nails, and hand and foot massages. Although nail technicians are generally trained to recognize diseases of the skin and nail, they do not treat diseases and would typically refer a client to a physician. Nail Technicians are also called manicurists and are regulated by their state’s cosmetology board.
What Does it Take to Become a Cosmetologist?
In order to obtain a license, an applicant:
- Must have a high school diploma or transcript, GED, or State recognized equivalent education certificate.
- Must be at least sixteen and one-half years of age (must provide proof of age)
- Must have completed 1600 hours of training for cosmetology
- Must have graduated from an approved Cosmetology School
- Must pass Idaho Boards for theory and practical examination
What are my career options after school?
The beauty about a career in cosmetology is it opens so many doors for you and allows you so many career opportunities. Working behind the chair on a daily basis allows you to express your creativity and desire to help people achieve their goal of looking great.
If owning your own business and being your own boss is your goal, you can have a salon of your own and help other stylists achieve their goals or lease a station in an existing salon and become an independent stylist.
All manufacturers are always looking for stylists that will train for them on a part time and full time basis so you may become an educator of product representative who travels all over the country.
Health and beauty spas are growing at a phenomenal rate and in need of cosmetologists specializing in esthetics.
We are proud to have graduates working in everything from a small one station salon in their homes to salons in 5 star resorts from Seattle to the Virgin Islands.
Can potential students experience the classroom and talk with students?
We invite you in to meet with our staff and receive a complementary service so you can visit with or current students about their experience here at Headmasters.

Do I need a high school diploma or GED to attend school at Headmasters?
Yes.
Is everything included in tuition?
No, Kits and books are separate.
Do you offer on or off campus housing or assistance?
No, if housing is an issue we can and do point our students in the right direction but we do not have any kind of Dorms or agreements with anyone at this time.
What Programs Do you Offer?
Cosmetology, which includes Hair, Nails, Skin Care and Teacher Training.
Do you offer full-time, part-time classes and what about night and weekends?
Full Time only.
Do you offer placement assistance after graduation?
During the course of training, students visit the various salons in the area to get a feel for the type of salon they would like to work in. Area manages and salon owners also visit the school looking for stylists.
We also receive calls from area salon owners, many of which graduated from Headmasters looking for graduates to fill openings in their salons.
Students also receive training necessary if they wish to open their own salon or lease a station. Headmasters also has an extensive network in the industry that allows us to connect graduates form our school to just about anywhere in the country.
What is an Esthetician?
Estheticians are licensed professionals who are experts in maintaining and improving healthy skin. An esthetician’s general scope of practice is limited to the epidermis (the outer layer of skin).
What do Estheticians do?
Estheticians work in many different environments such as salons, med spas, day spas, skin care clinics, and private practice. Estheticians perform skin treatments that include hair removal (waxing, threading, tweezing, sugaring), facial massage, body treatments (wraps, exfoliation, hydrotherapy), skin care consultations, chemical exfoliation, eyelash and eyebrow tinting, eyelash extensions, aromatherapy, and makeup application.
What is a Makeup Artist?
A makeup artist is in a branch of cosmetology that specializes in the application of cosmetics to a person’s face, by using such products as foundation or powder, blush, or eye makeup.
Where Can a Cosmetology License Take Me?

Do I have access to one on one attention if I need more help?
For sure, we have students with that learn in different ways and if they have the drive to learn it we have the ability to do what it takes to help you out.

You will receive training and be provided with a more than just one professional product so you will be ready to go to work in any number of salons.
You will also spend time in class covering the entire Milady Textbook but also the new business fundamentals program that will help you in both your professional and personal life.
We do a whole lot more than just teach you the basics. We want to help each student develop into a complete professional with the tools and knowledge to achieve success beyond their wildest dreams.

We encourage it and would love to show you around our great school and will be ready to answer any questions you might have.
Do you offer cutting edge techniques?
We believe students should be trained using professional products that are being used in the top salons. Students receive hands on training using Paul Mitchel, Aquage and Nioxin products for Hair, OPI and Creative nail products for nails and Pharma gel skin care products.
By using these products in the school it allows us to bring in educators provided by these companies to keep our students updated on skills, techniques and product knowledge. It also affords them the opportunity to network with professionals with national connections.
What support do you offer for taking exams?
We are very proud of our graduate’s success rate at State Board of Cosmetology exams. Most years we have achieved a 100% pass rate for first time applicants. We provide a class and assist you in properly packing your kit needed to take the exam and then provide a mock board using the exact test information used at the exams.
The instructor providing the training has attended an advanced class in preparing students for boards given by DL Roope, the company that administers the exam.
